Indigenous Gold Mining in the Kenkuim Shuar Community: A Decolonial and Postcapitalist Approach to Sustainability

This article analyzes the experiences of small Shuar community Kenkuim (Congüime) in Ecuadorian Amazon that since 2016 carries out gold mining through communitarian company Exploken Minera. The case is unique South America, not only for being example indigenous granted formal state concession, but also its green profile, without usage chemicals or heavy metals. Within a setting expanding extractivism conditioned by global capitalism and theoretical framework decolonial postcapitalist approach to sustainability, this ethnographic study deals with expressions resistance adaptation how socio-cultural, ecological, economic values are articulated actors relation new project. results indicate experiment constitutes meaningful alternative destructive line reasoning.
